Indian Youth Delegation to China

IIT Goa's Youth Delegation to China

The Indian Youth Delegation to China was a tour of China consisting of 200 members from diverse fields, representing all parts of India. It consisted of youth from some of the top most colleges in India, youth leaders as well as social workers and volunteers. Prabal Bhatnagar, Shivangi Sharma, Neha Shah, and Janmejay Rao were the four third-year students from IIT Goa who were selected to be a part of this delegation. We were divided into two groups of 100 members each. Group A's itinerary included the cities of Beijing, Wuhan, and Shanghai while Group B's itinerary included Beijing, Kunming, and Guangzhou. The main purpose of the visit was to promote mutual understanding of values and culture amongst the youth and to develop better relations between India and China. We got a chance to visit The Forbidden City, The Great Wall of China, Oriental Pearl Tower as well as Canton Tower. Our tour also consisted of visits to museums, ethnic villages, technological companies, industrial and entrepreneurship parks, science centres, and universities. We were fortunate enough to have dinner in the Indian Embassy in Beijing and to have Mr Gautam Bambawale, the Indian Ambassador to China, address us all. We also got to hear from Mr. Sailas Thangal, the Consulate General of India, on our farewell cruise on the Pearl River in Guangzhou. We got to see different cultural traditions and performances as well as learn about the immense technological development that took place in China. Through museums, we learnt a lot about China's struggle to free itself from imperialism and it's journey to becoming the country it is today. We also got the opportunity to interact with some of the Chinese youth. Overall, it was an enriching experience that all of us will remember throughout our lives. I would like to thank the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India for giving us this wonderful opportunity.
